Sarika's Growing Post

Question # 1

What is a good definition of a percent? You should use words symbols, pictures and numerical examples in you definition. (Suggestion gliffy is an excellent tool for adding detail to your definition.)

A percent is a number that you get out of a whole by dividing by 100. Example, if you got 18 out of 20 on a test that be 90% by dividing 18 by 20 you would get 90

Question # 2

How are three fifths (3/5), 3:2, 60%, and 0.6 all the same time? Use pictures and words to show your answer.

Decimal

0.6 = 0.6 * 100 = 60%

60/100 = 3/5

100 – 60 = 60:40 or 3:2

Ratio

3:2 = N-N = 3/5

3/5 3/5 = 0.6

3/5 * 100 = 60%

percent

60% = say it, write it, 60/100 or 3/5

60 /100 = 0.6

100 – 60 = 60:40 or 3:2

fraction

3/5 = 3/5 * 100 = 60%

3/5 = 0.6

3 – 5 = 3:2

Question # 3

Show 3 different ways to find 35% of 80. (Bubbleshare is an excellent tool to animate the many different ways of finding this answer.)

frist way

80/100 = 0.8

0.8 = 1%

35 * 0.8 = 28

second way
80 / 10 = 8
8 = 10%
8 + 8+ 8+4 =28
10 + 10 +10 +5 = 35
28 = 35%

third way

80/2 = 40

40 = 50%

40 /2 = 20

20 =25%

0.1/80 =8

8=10%

Ms. Stanzi said that a greater number of her students met their reading goal. Could Ms Stanzi be correct? Why or Why not.

Ms Stanzi can be correct because she may have more student then Ms Lowrey has.

lets say Ms Stanzi class has 30 students in her class and Ms Lowrey has has 20 in her class.

15/30 is 50% and 11/20 = 55%

Overall Comment for the Growing Post: You did very well in answering your questions, but you mostly lost a great amount of marks by not including pictures and using another application from Studentblogwikitools. So when you have free time, you should put in pictures to get better marks.
