They are all equivalents.
3:2 -> 3 + 2 = 5 -> 3/5 -> 3 (divided by) 5 = 0.6 -> 0.6 x 100 = 60 -> 60%

Question 3 Show 3 different ways to find 35% of 80. (bubbleshare is an excellent tool to animate the many different ways of finding these answer).
This Bubbleshare thingy I made show three of the many ways to do this question. The ways are separated by a slide with the number 80 on it so you won't get confused. Hope it's useful!

It's a great post because the examples the person uses really helps you to understand percentages. I only had one little suggestion for the person, to have a better picture to use for 2/5. They put 2 pingpong tables, so it only represented the denominator. I made a suggestion for them to put 5 groups of stick people (representing the family) and have 2 of them with a pingpong table. If the person who did that put a picture like i suggested, i would've given them 4/5.

The principal announced that 50% of the children in Ms. Stanzi's class met their reading goal for the month and that 55% of the children in Ms. Lowrey's class met their reading goal for the month. Ms Stanzi said that a greater number of her students met their reading goal. Could Ms Stanzi be correct? Why or Why not.
Ms. Stanzi can be CORRECT because they never mentioned how many students there are in each class. Here is a diagram I made on Gliffy showing my work:

Use a hundred grid (unit square) to illustrate the following questions once you have explained and illustrated what the question means solve it.
a) 16 is 40% of what number?
This question tells us that 40% of a number is 16, so we have to find what that number is exactly. So first you divide 16 by 4.
16 (divided by) 4 (or 40%) = 4
You divide it by 4 because to find 10% of something you must divide that number by 10. Then you must multiply it by the number of the groups of 10 you want, in this case 4. So basicly, we have to work backwards to find the answer to this question. To work backwards, you have to replace MULTIPLY into DIVIDE, and the same goes for the final step.
You are left with the number FOUR. 4 represents the amount that 10 unit cubes (a rod) stands for. In 100 unit cubes (a flat), there are 10 rods, or 10 GROUPS OF FOUR:
10 groups of 4 = 40
So there for 100% is equal to 40.

This question is asking us to find 120% of 30. If you convert 120% percent into a fraction, it would be 120/100. Obviously that number is an improper fraction (the numerator is larger than the denominator), so you would need to squares to solve the problem. 100% would equal 30 and so, you would need to find 20% and then add it to 30. Well then, let's get started!
First, we need to find 10% of 30.
30 (divided by) 10 (10%) = 3
The next step is to multiply the product by two (2 groups of 10).
2 groups of 3 = 6 -or- 20%
All that's left to do is add 100% (30) to 20% (6). If you add those 2 together you get 120% (100 + 20 = 120)!
100 = 30
+20 = 6
120 = 36
And there you have it =) Oh! I forgot that i made a Bubbleshare thingy on it . . . Here it is =)
