They are all equivalents. For example if you use the ratio 3:2 you add the numbers together then your answer becomes 5, so you use the 5 as the denominator and the 3 is the numerator. After that you divide the numerator by the denominator and the answer is 0.6. With that you times it by 100 and the answer would be 60%.

Show 3 different ways to find 35% of 80.
1) 35/35=1
35/100=0.35
0.35*80=28
2)100/100=1% 80 divided by 100 = 0.8
3)80/100=0.8

It is an equivalent fraction out of 100
The symbol for percent is this >>> %

They are all equivalents. Because 3:2 , you have to add the two numbers together which is 5 and that is the denominator and the first number of the ratio is the numerator which is 3. So in that case it would be 3/5.
So both are equivalent.
Now 0.6 is similar because … 3/5 equals 0.6.
So now those are similar.
Now 60% is similar to all of these because to find a percent is n/d = __ * 100 = %. So in this case it is similar because:
3/5 = 0.6 * 100 = 60%.

Show 3 different ways to fine 35% of 80.
There are 100 squares in each:
100 divided by it gives you 1%. So its 80 divided by 100 which equals 0.8
0.8 is how much one area of a square equals.
I kind of did mine in a different way.
(the ones in brackets mean multiply)

35/100 (80) =?
35(80)= 100?
35x80 = 2800
28 = 1 %

another way is:
you have to first get this : How many tens are there in 80 ??
so its 8 right?
so on a grid you shade in 10% which is 8.
so that is 10 % already so now what you do is...
35 - 10 = 25
25-10 = 15
15 - 10 = 5
So all those ten equal 8% which equals 10% on a 100 grid square.
So now if all those 10s equal 8 then you add those with a 4
8+8+8+4 = 28 !!!!

80/80=1 >> now you divide 80 by 100 and that equals :
80/100= 0.8 >> okaay now you get that decimal and multiply that by 35.
0.8x35= 28 >> which equals 28 =)

Ms. Stanzi can be correct because it did not say in the question how many students she has in her class. But that means that Ms. Lowreys class has more students because it says 55% and Ms. Stanzi has 50%.

a: 16 is 40% of what number ?
16 / 4 = 4
because the whole thing is out of 40 then the 4 equals 10 percent or 4 %
So there are 10 groups of 4 because 20 (shaded) and 60 (blank) added together is 100.
So there are 4 groups of ten. So all you have to do it:
10 x 4 = 40 >>> in this case the answer would be 40 !
30 / 10 = 3
2 x 3 = 6 >>> because there are 2 groups of three to = 6 so it is 20 %
100 = 30
20 = 6
now you add that all together
120 = 36 !

I will show you how 3/5, 3:2, 60% and 0.6 are all the same. I used 3:2 to show you. I turned the ratio into fraction, decimal and percent.
3:2 -->3(3)/5(3+2) -->(3 divided by 5) 0.6--> (0.6 x 100) 60%

I commented on this great post. This post was very easy to understand and it included some examples about percentages. Such as when you are taking a french test that is out of 50 and there's a bonus question that is worth 5% . If you get that correct and all the other questions then it is possible to get 55/50 which is 110%.
The post also teaches how to simplify fractions and it also teaches that percentage actually means "Per Hundred" and
that percent is over 100 or /100. The post also included terms that are mostly used in percentage such as "of" meaning "multiply". Also with the "/" meaning "divide".You guys should read that post, you'll learn alot and some of the information we already know so it will serve as a review to you guys.

It didn't mentioned how many students each teacher had. To show you how Ms. Stanzi could be CORRECT, I imagined she had 46 students while Ms. Lowery had 40 students.

To answer this equation I did a shortcut. I went backwards!
Here is another way to answer this question. We learned this way yesterday. This way is much easier.
b) What is 120% of 30?
To answer this question I multiplied the decimal of the number to the percent.

It's a great post because the examples the person uses really helps you to understand percentages. I only had one little suggestion for the person, to have a better picture to use for 2/5. They put 2 pingpong tables, so it only represented the denominator. I made a suggestion for them to put 5 groups of stick people (representing the family) and have 2 of them with a pingpong table. If the person who did that put a picture like i suggested, i would've given them 4/5.

This question tells us that 40% of a number is 16, so we have to find what that number is exactly. So first you divide 16 by 4.
16 (divided by) 4 (or 40%) = 4
You divide it by 4 because to find 10% of something you must divide that number by 10. Then you must multiply it by the number of the groups of 10 you want, in this case 4. So basicly, we have to work backwards to find the answer to this question. To work backwards, you have to replace MULTIPLY into DIVIDE, and the same goes for the final step.
You are left with the number FOUR. 4 represents the amount that 10 unit cubes (a rod) stands for. In 100 unit cubes (a flat), there are 10 rods, or 10 GROUPS OF FOUR:
10 groups of 4 = 40
So there for 100% is equal to 40.

This question is asking us to find 120% of 30. If you convert 120% percent into a fraction, it would be 120/100. Obviously that number is an improper fraction (the numerator is larger than the denominator), so you would need to squares to solve the problem. 100% would equal 30 and so, you would need to find 20% and then add it to 30. Well then, let's get started!
First, we need to find 10% of 30.
30 (divided by) 10 (10%) = 3
The next step is to multiply the product by two (2 groups of 10).
2 groups of 3 = 6 -or- 20%
All that's left to do is add 100% (30) to 20% (6). If you add those 2 together you get 120% (100 + 20 = 120)!
100 = 30
+20 = 6
120 = 36

She CAN be correct because there can be more students in half of Ms. Stanzi's class than in Ms. Lowrey's class.

The question asks us to find out what has 16 as 40%. To do this is simple. First we know that 40% + 40% + 20% = 100%. So since we already know that 16 = 40% of x, we just need to know what 20% is. To do that divide 40% by 2. (40%/2 = 20%). So 16/2 = 8, so we can say that 8 is 20% of x. And now we add everything together. 16 + 16 + 8 = 40. There. Now we know that x = 40, so 16 is 40% of 40.

This one is easier than A. We know that 30 is 100% of 30. So we just need to add 20%. Just go...(30/100 = 0.3 x 20 = 6) So 30 + 6 = 36 and we conclude that 120% of 30 is 36.

40/2=20 40/1.5=26.66
No, she can't be correct because there is more of an average of students that are meeting their reading goal and the only way Ms. Stanzi could be correct is if a bigger number of kids start improving their reading.

I got this answer by first dividing 40 by 100 and that gives me 0.4.So then you multiply the decimal by the part and that gives you 40% of 16.
b) 120% of 100 is 120
120/100=1.2
30 x 1.2=36
120/100 = 36/30
I got this answer by first finding out what 120% of 100 is which is 120. So then I divided 120 by 100 which gives me 1.2. Then you multiply by the whole which is 30 by 1.2, and that gives you 36 out of 30.

3/5 equals 60% becuase 5 divided by 3 is 0.6 and 0.6 x 100 is 60%
3/5 equals 0.6 because 5 divided by 3 is 0.6
long story short .. they're all equivalent to each other =)

Ms. Stanzi cant be correct because her class's percentage is lower than Ms. Lowery's.
She could also be correct because she could have more students than Ms. Lowery's class.
Let's say Ms. Stanzi's class at 10 students. 10 / 2 = 5 5 = 50%
.. and Ms. Lowery's class only has 6 students ..
6 / 2 = 3 0.5 / 6 = .08 3 + .08 = 3.08

if 16 is 40% of a number you divide the number by 4 so you can get 10% and in this case it is 4 .. so to get 100 percent you need to multiply it by 10 becuase 10 X 10 = 100 .. so 4X10=40 so 16 is 40% of 40b) What is 120% of 30?
30 is 100% so all we need to find 20% .. in the picture I found 1% but there is a shorter way .. find 10% first so 30/10=3 or 10% so 3(or 10%) X 2 = 6 (or 20%) so 120% of 30 is 36Saturday, December 09, 2006

Percent: An equivalent that is written as a fraction with a denominator of one hundred.
Example 50% would be 50/100, fifty over one hundred, half of a whole.
Question 2
How are three fifths (3/5), 3:2, 60% and 0.6 all the same? Use pictures and words to show

60% = 60/100 60 divide by 20 = 3 3/5
=100 divide by 20 = 5
60%= 60 divide by 100 = 0.60
3/5= 3:5-3= 3:2
I got 3/5 from 60% by dividing the numerator and the denominator by 100.
I got 0.60 from 60% by dividing 60% by 100.
I got 3:2 by taking away the numerator from the denominator (5-3) which equals 2 and the first # is always the numerator.

100 divided by 100=1
80 divided by 100=0.80
Each square equals .80
35*.80= 28%
35/2=17.5
17.5*0.8=14
14+14=28
80/10=8

You have a 10 by 10 grid. It's percentage isn't 100% it is a lower number because 16 is smaller than 40. I coloured in 40 squares because it asks for 40%. So Mr. H wants to know what number has 16 that is equal 40%. This is what i came up with:
40/100=.4
.4*40=16
So the square is worth 40
40=100%
16=40%
B) What is 120% of 30?
I have 2 10x10 grid. I coloured them in to equal to 120. What I need to find out is how much 120% is when the total number is out 30. This is what i came up with:
30x120%=3600
3600/100=36
120%=36
